Welcome to the city that I love and call home! Richmond, the River City, RVA…

Landmarks & Places to Go

Belle Isle & the Buttermilk Trail – Perfect for walking, running, mountain biking or sun bathing on a rock in the summer.

Monument Avenue – Gorgeous homes on a street lined with trees. Grab a coffee from a local cafe and take a stroll as the leaves begin to change in the fall.

VMFA (Virginia Museum of Fine Arts) – They have a stellar Friday Happy Hour in their cafe!

Maymont – An old mansion, grounds include a petting zoo, huge gardens and fields perfect for picnicking.

Best Pizza – Belmont Pizzeria

Best Local Coffee Shops – Black Hand (dirty chai with almond milk, please!), Lamplighter (3 words: quilted bacon sandwich)

Best Sandwiches – Garnett’s, Olio

Garland’s Favorite Restaurant – Weezie’s Kitchen

You can read about a lot of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots under “Restaurant Reviews“. Feel free to contact me for a specific recommendation—I could talk Richmond restaurants all day!

Markets, Festivals, etc.

South of the James Farmers Market – Open 8AM-12PM year round in Forrest Hill Park. I love heading here after a morning run to buy breakfast and fresh produce, eggs and meats.

Monument Avenue 10K – One of the largest 10Ks in the US, this event typically falls in early fall (March/April) and gives you the perfect perspective of the city

Broad Appetit Food Festival – Typically at the beginning of June, this festival gives you a taste of nearly every local Richmond restaurant (50+) for only $3 a plate. Go early and come hungry! Here’s my 2014 review.

Fire, Flour & Fork – A new culinary event in Richmond that offers multiple ways to learn, taste & explore food. Read my posts here and here.

SEAL Team PT – My favorite way to workout! They also have locations in Charlottesville, Washington DC and Philadelphia.
